The qualifications for being a foster parent within the State of Oklahoma are as follows:
We want to provide the best possible foster homes for children in OKDHS custody to heal and thrive in. This is why all of our foster homes are trained in TBRI (the Trust-Based Relational Intervention methods developed by Karen Purvis), in addition to the required 27 hours of pre-service training and 12 hours of yearly in-service training. We also regularly offer "best practices" educational material for caregivers at our monthly foster parent party.
PALS Family, Inc. families who foster infants are specially trained to bridge with new moms and dads of babies in OKDHS custody. We encourage as many visits for the baby with their biological parents as possible. While keeping in mind the safety of the child, research shows preserving the bond between mother and baby is in the best interest of the child. It is for this reason, we do everything we can to ensure a bond is supported, encouraged within PALS Family, Inc. foster homes.
We believe that, in order to be the best foster care agency for the child, we must partner with biological parents to help support and encourage reunification as quickly and safely as possible. Through our family resource center, we offer parents on-site and on-line resources for becoming the best parent possible for their child. We support the biological parent in writing court reports, supervising visitations, reading and reviewing important documents and offering hope, understanding, love, and support.
We know an exceptional foster family = a supported foster family. This is why we do everything we can to ensure our foster homes are supported physically, mentally, and emotionally. Foster parenting has traditionally been a lonely role in society. We hope to change this experience for every PALS Family, Inc. foster home by providing a community of people to wrap around them and support them in their foster care journey.
In addition to physical, mental, and emotional support, we also provide financial support for our foster families. Did your foster child outgrow their shoes AGAIN? Does your foster child want to take dance lessons? Do you need a date night with your spouse? We have you covered! Each foster family is allotted monthly, quarterly, and yearly reimbursements for clothing/shoes/diapers, extracurricular activities, and babysitting.
Together, we can transform our community one child,
one family and one neighborhood at a time.
